RAAPOA January Board Meeting

Sunday, January 22nd, 2017

There will be a board meeting on January 31, 2017 at 5:30 PM in Glenn Chiappe’s hangar.  The Board will be discussing and hopefully setting up a committee to start working on the next contract between the RAAPOA and the city.  We will also be discussing and hopefully deciding on the location for our annual Member meeting set for the 25th of March, 2017.  Anyone interested should be there.  Please bring your own chair if possible.

Also, as a quick reminder, our lot fees are due no later than the 31st of January to avoid late fees.  Fees can be mailed or put in the red metal box by the fuel pit.

November 30th, 2016 RAAPOA Board Meeting minutes

Sunday, January 22nd, 2017

Meeting was called to order at 5:40 PM by President Don Barthlow. Board members in attendance were President Don Barthlow, Vice President Glenn Chiappe, Treasurer Mike LeBlanc, and Secretary John Bush. Member at Large, Glenn Deitiker, was absent.  Minutes from the June 18th, 2016 Board meeting were read by Secretary John Bush.  Vice President Glenn Chiappe made a motion to accept the minutes as read which was seconded by Art Koehn and was accepted by unanimous vote of members in attendance.

Treasurer Mike LeBlanc reported that as of 11-30-2016 the RAAPOA has a total of $34,034.45.

Glenn Chiappe brought up the subject of annual fees.  Steve and Claudia Colwell and Bill and Linda Colthorp have looked into the City’s cost of upkeep of the airport and reported that the cost is close to $20,000 per year.  The hangar fees cover this cost.  It was mentioned that TxDot wants the City to cover the costs of future CIP projects.  With that in mind, Jim Awalt made a motion to keep fees at $275.00 for the coming year and was seconded by Art Koehn and accepted.

There was a discussion about fees charged for aircraft stored in property owners hangars that are owned by non POA members.  This was originally set up to help cover costs when there were not that many lot owners at the airport.  Jennifer Carlson and Jim Peck both spoke about what fees are collected and for what purpose and it was agreed that this would be a topic for the General Membership meeting in March.

The need for updating the CC and R’s was discussed.  Jim Awalt and Linda Colthorp pointed out that they were reviewed 2 years ago and are up to date.

It was also pointed out that trailer storage and unairworthy aircraft storage on lots fall under City ordinances.  Jim Awalt expressed that we as a POA would rather work as a group helping members with compliance issues rather than policing violations.

The POA will continue collecting transient parking fees for the foreseeable future.

President Don Barthlow stated that there will be two openings on the Airport Advisory Board come January 2017, as he and Mike Hurosky will be stepping down.  Anyone interested in being on the Advisory Board should have their applications into David Harrell at the Lago Vista City Offices, no later than 5:00 PM, December 19th, 2016.  The earlier the better.

The next RAAPOA Board meeting is set for Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at Genn Chiappe’s hangar.  We will be discussing and hopefully setting up a committee to start dealing with our next contract with the City.  Anyone interested should be there.  If you’ve got chairs, bring them.

The date for our Annual Membership Meeting and Luncheon has been set for Saturday, March 25, 2017 at 11:00 AM.  The location has yet to be determined.

Respectively, John Bush

Secretary, RAAPOA

It’s Alive!

Friday, January 13th, 2017

This web site is alive!  It’s been about a year since the last post, but we’ll see about getting a little bit of information and current news posted as it rolls in.  The upcoming RAAPOA annual meeting springs to mind.

If you have any suggestions or requests, please send them through your RAAPOA officers, comment here if you can, or email and we’ll see what we can do for you.

Our thanks to Seth, who maintained this site for many years.  That’s more punishment than one man should have to endure!

Aircraft Tampering

Thursday, May 22nd, 2008

Sometime between 4/6/8 and 5/10/8 someone deliberately poured a substance down the heater air intake of the Coltharp’s C-150 while in front of, or in, their hangar.
The substance caused smoke to enter the cabin while in flight. A precautionary landing was successful and the substance was discovered and removed with no damage or injury.

Would anyone in our airport community who has seen suspicious activity during this time period or experience a similar event please contact Bill Coltharp or the Lago Vista Police Department at (512.267.7141)?
