Rusty Allen Airport now has WiFi access!

The PUBLIC wireless network is called RAAPOA WiFi.

  • Please note that this is an unsecured network. Please make sure any devices you connect to the network are properly secured.
  • The antenna is located behind Horace Miller’s hangar on the Northern tallest antenna so line of site to that location is your best bet for the strongest signal.

Preliminary Airport Closing Schedule

Thursday, May 8th, 2008

A message from Bill Coltharp, Chairman of the Airport Advisory Board:

A preliminary schedule for closing the airport (runway and taxiways) has been determined, as required by the construction activity. Chris Robertson, Project Supervisor, Cravens Partners, is scheduling the construction activity that will require the airport to be closed beginning Tuesday morning May 27 through Friday afternoon, May 30 for the resurfacing of the runway and taxiways.

Opening for the weekend of May 31 & June 1 is possible, with NO STRIPING on the runway or taxiways.

The airport will then be closing again for two days, Monday and Tuesday, June 2 & 3 for painting the striping on all surfaces.

The airport will open again on Wednesday, June 4.

This schedule is preliminary, and is dependant on weather conditions and final approval of the engineer.

If you have any questions, please contact Bill Coltharp (bill@coltharp.com). Additional updates will be posted as they become available.

Young Eagles visit Rusty Allen

Wednesday, December 13th, 2006

About sixty Young Eagles paid a visit to Rusty Allen on Nov 4th. There were a lot of smiling kids, and a few jealous parents; a good time was had by all.

A big thanks to all the volunteers who helped out!

The F-4 has landed

F-4 Phantom

Rusty Allen was instrumental in bringing this particular Phantom to Lago Vista as part of his Air Power Museum located in his hangar at the airport. The Phantom was externally helo lifted here under a Texas Air National Guard Chinook helicopter after spending years guarding the entrance to Bergstrom AFB in Austin. It has just completed a year long restoration process in September of 2006, which included sanding, body work and painting.

F-4 Phantom

Work was completed by all volunteers and all of the funds used in the restoration were donations. The Phantom was lifted to its final resting spot at the entrance to the Lago Vista Airport on September 30, 2006.

Donations are still needed for the landscaping of the airport entrance and can be brought by the Lago Vista City Hall. Contributions are fully tax deductible. Checks should be made out to, “City of Lago Vista,” and be sure to include “F-4 Phantom Fund” on the check.
